Segment 1: "Child of Public Radio" (1:00)

IN: "Hi, I'm Chris Thile ... "
OUT: "Call now and contribute, won't you. Thank you!"

Hi, I'm Chris Thile, the host of A Prairie Home Companion. You could say I'm a child of Public Radio.  I grew up on it. And my earliest memories are kind of a blur but I remember the music ... We'd tune in every week day and hear ...
(MUSIC: ATC THEME)
And Noah Adams would start the show ... And then my favorite theme, of course ...
(MUSIC: CAR TALK THEME)
... followed by the laughing brothers reminding us not to drive like the other one. But the very first time I heard A Prairie Home Companion, Garrison sang ...
(MUSIC: HELLO LOVE)
"Look who's coming through the door, I think we met somewhere before ... " - and we have.
(MUSIC CONTINUES UNDER)
It's been a long and beautiful journey, one that will continue with your support. Public radio is still America's best source for news, music, information and stories about all of us. Call now and contribute, won't you? Thank you!
(MUSIC OUT)

Segment 2: "Mandolin Tuning" (0:45)

IN: [MUSIC INTRO] "Hi, it's Chris Thile ... "
OUT: "You'll be glad you did - and it'll feel like this. [MUSIC PLAYOFF]"

(MUSIC: MANDOLIN TUNING UNDER)
Hi, it's Chris Thile, host of a Prairie Home Companion. I play the mandolin, as you might know, which is actually easier to play than it is to tune, so just give me a second here ...
(MANDOLIN TUNING UNDERNEATH CONTINUES)
Y'know, someone suggested that I keep tuning until you call this here radio station and pledge your support. But I don't know how I feel about that - I mean, deep down, I don't think it would be right, and, if you know me at all, that just isn't my style. (TUNING) Almost there ...

In the meantime, why don't you take a moment and call this radio station to pledge your support. You'll be glad you did - and it'll feel like this.
(MUSIC PLAYOFF)

Segment 3: "Bernie/Trump" (1:04)

IN: "I'm Chris Thile, and I approve this message ... "
OUT: " ... and pledge your support to this public radio station."

Chris Thile:I'm Chris Thile, and I approve this message - mostly.

Tim Russell (Bernie): Let me cut right to the chase. Only the top 1/10 of 1% of the young Public Radio listeners today are paying their fair share of the costs of this very important service, while the bottom 99% are spending their discretionary funds on Cappuccinos and "Minecraft", as if gamers need more caffeine! To insure future growth, what this Public Radio station needs is a Membership revolution!

Tim Russell (Trump): Only I can make Public Radio great again, OK?
Let's start with the Incentives, OK? When you pledge, I'll send you "The Gary Busey Mug", a mug you'll remember, believe me. How about this very high-energy CD, "Omarosa Sings from 2 Corinthians"; and then, there's my "Totally Trump Tote" - Gold vinyl, adjustable handles that fit even the smallest of hands, and then expand to fit huge hands, like mine.

Tim Russell (Bernie): Chris, I'm speechless. All I can say is join the revolution now and pledge your support to this public radio station.

Segment 4: "Fred Newman - SFX" (1:12)

IN: [SFX intro] "This is Fred Newman ... "
OUT: "It makes a difference - and so do you!"

[SFX intro]
"This is Fred Newman, the sound effects guy on A Prairie Home Companion.
[SFX]
Yeah, that's kind of what I do. You cannot imagine how much I personally depend on public radio, where information comes at me not as spitballs ...
[SFX: spitballs]
Or sound bites ...
[SFX: animal sounds]
Or stampedes ...
[SFX: stampede]
Or hard sell ...
[SFX: "If you order now, you can get absolutely free this ... "]
But in carefully constructed ...
[SFX: construction]
... stories and soundscapes.
[SFX: nature]
In this chaotic world ...
[SFX: artillery]
... public radio just makes sense.
[SFX: "Ahhhh ... "]
Contribute now to public radio. It makes a difference - and so do you!"
[SFX: "Thank you ... thank you ... thank you!"]

Segment 5: "A Round of Applause" (0:36)

IN: "Hi, it's Chris Thile ... "
OUT: "Here's how, and thanks so much!"

"Hi, it's Chris Thile, host of A Prairie Home Companion. Each week, I write a song-of-the-week for our show.  That takes a little time and effort on my part, but compare that to what your local public radio station does: you get daily coverage of breaking news, local AND national events from Morning Edition through All Things Considered; in-depth conversations with newsmakers, thought-leaders, artists and performers - (like me) - throughout the week, and the BEST entertainment on the radio that carries you through the weekend. WHEW! I think that deserves a round of applause right there.  Please show your support for this station and all that they do, day-in, day-out, with a contribution of any amount.  Here's how, and thanks so much!"

Segment 6: "So Much to Remember" (0:34)

IN: "Hi, it's Chris Thile ... "
OUT: "Here's someone to tell you more, and thanks!"

"Hi, it's Chris Thile, host of A Prairie Home Companion. There are SO many things to remember for our show: the venue, performers, scripts, rehearsals ... It can be easy to forget something important, like ... a mandolin - (for the record that's NEVER happened). Well, your membership to this public radio station is pretty important, too -
but you still might forget to renew it even if you listen every day. Here's a solution: become a sustaining member. You sign-up once, give a set amount each month, and you don't have to worry about your membership expiring. Try it, I think you'll like it! And then you can get back to all the great programming that this station brings you.  Here's someone to tell you more, and thanks!"

Segment 7: "Your Support Makes It Possible" (0:17)

IN: "Hi, this is Chris Thile ... "
OUT: "Here's how you can help."

"Hi, this is Chris Thile, the new host of A Prairie Home Companion. Your station's Member Drive is underway, and it's the support of listeners just like YOU that makes it possible for programs like A Prairie Home Companion to be on your radio every weekend.
We're delighted that you're a fan of Prairie Home, and THANK YOU so much for your support of this public radio station! Here's how you can help."

Segment 8: "No Gift is Too Small" (0:20)

IN: "Hi, this is Chris Thile ... "
OUT: "Thanks so much for listening, and here's how to help."

"Hi, this is Chris Thile, the new host of A Prairie Home Companion. We'll get you right back to the show in just a little bit. But first, I need to tell you that your station's Member Drive is underway, and I'm sure they'd just LOVE to hear from you.
Please show your support for this station right now with a contribution of any amount - no gift too small ... or too big! Thanks so much for listening, and here's how to help."

Segment 9: "Quick Reminder" (0:12)

IN: "Hi, it's Chris Thile ... "
OUT: "Here's how, and thanks so much!"

"Hi folks, it's Chris Thile. Just a quick reminder that this station's Member Drive is going on now, and they need to hear from YOU!
Thanks so much for listening to A Prairie Home Companion, and thank you even more for supporting your local public radio station. Here's how you can help."
