Overview: BBC World Service

For more than 80 years, the BBC World Service has been the globe's most comprehensive source for news. No other news organization has a network of international correspondents, reporters and producers to rival the BBC. Whenever and wherever news breaks, the BBC World Service is there.

Much more than a breaking-news feed, the BBC World Service offers a variety of information programming, including programs on arts, sport, science and business.

Listeners count on the BBC to provide superior news and information programming because they know the BBC World Service is the most respected news source on the planet.

Program feed schedule

BBC World Service is available via the ContentDepot. Stations must subscribe to each hour of BBC World Service programming they intend to air. The ContentDepot program pages are set up as individual hourly live feeds (0000, 0100, 0200, etc.) for Weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Stations must subscribe to all of the hours they wish to receive.

promo access

Downloadable promos are available on the BBC Partners site. (Site is password protected. BBC World Service partner stations can receive access by contacting their APM Station Relations Representative.)

On the BBC Partners site, click on Downloads in the menu on the left. Once on the Downloads page, enter the name of the program for which you need promos in the search box at the top of the page and hit "enter".

broadcast rights

BBC World Service programs are available to all American Public Media affiliate stations for broadcast. Some programs can be delayed several hours or days. Please consult the BBC World Service broadcast rights listing. Simulcast streaming rights are available for BBC programming. See terms and conditions described in the American Public Media Service Agreement. Prior to carrying this series, stations must confirm carriage with American Public Media.


Overview: BBC Newscasts only

Stations not wishing or able to carry complete programs or hours of BBC World Service content may choose to utilize the "Newscasts Only" service from APM and the BBC World Service. Stations may carry any and all "top of the hour" newscasts available 24 hours a day.

There is a separate carriage fee structure for stations that carry Newscasts only.

BBC Newscasts are part of the regular 24x7 BBC World Service feed available via the ContentDepot. There is no unique "Newscasts Only" feed. Stations must subscribe to each of the live stream(s) for the hours in which they wish to air the newscasts:

BBC (APM) World Service Weekday 0000, 0100, 0200, etc.
BBC (APM) World Service Saturday 0000, 0100, 0200, etc.
BBC (APM) World Service Sunday 0000, 0100, 0200, etc.

broadcast rights

BBC Newscasts are available to all American Public Media affiliate stations for broadcast. BBC Newscasts must be aired live; no tape delaying or editing allowed. Stations paying only for BBC Newscasts service have no rights to broadcast other content in the feeds and must contact APM if they desire full access. (Conversely, stations already subscribing to the full BBC World Service package do not need to pay for the "BBC Newscasts" service and may carry newscasts as desired.)

Simulcast streaming rights are available for BBC programming. See terms and conditions described in the American Public Media Service Agreement. Prior to carrying this series, stations must confirm carriage with American Public Media.

Overview: BBC World Service Webstream only

In addition to terrestrial broadcasting and corresponding online simulcasts, stations may also subscribe to provide the same program feed on a dedicated 24x7 online channel of the BBC World Service. See Broadcast Rights and Fees for additional information.

There is a separate usage fee structure for stations to carry this online service.

BBC Webstream Only comprises the same feeds as the terrestrial broadcasts that are available via the ContentDepot. To use the stream option, stations must subscribe to all BBC (APM) World Service live streams in the ContentDepot. Live streams are made available at the following times:

usage rights

BBC Webstream Only is available to all American Public Media affiliate stations for broadcast. BBC Webstream Only must be aired live and unedited 24x7; no digital delaying, time-shifting, storage or on-demand, or editing allowed. See terms and conditions described in the American Public Media Service Agreement. Prior to carrying this series, stations must confirm carriage with American Public Media. A separate fee is required to use BBC Webstream Only.
