"Irish Inspirations" presents a musical exploration of how classical musicians and composers have incorporated the music of Ireland into their performances and compositions. Selections include Beethoven's "The Pulse of an Irishman," Sousa's "Overture to the Irish Dragoon," Grainger's "Irish Tune from County Derry," and many more.
Hosted by Andrea Blain, this one-hour, 2016 encore special presents beautiful and unexpected examples of classical music that has its roots in the traditional and folk music of the Emerald Isle.
Andrea Blain is an APM classical music host/producer based at Minnesota Public Radio. She is one of the on-air voices of "Music Through the Night," and has produced and scripted a number of programs for local and national radio. She began her work in radio with the BBC in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where she lived for 33 years. There, she was a freelance host/producer for classical music and current events programs.
One hour. Approximately 45 minutes of music, with approximately 15 minutes of commentary.
